THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAYS TO SPEED LEARNING KITESURFING If you look through this site and spend an hour or two at http://www.kiteforum.com *, you will see there is a tremendous amount of knowledge which you DO want, MIGHT want and, we believe, SHOULD want. Additionally, much of the actual physical skill required can ONLY be obtained through repetitive practice (why practice is essential). Add the fact that most people have only limited time available and that conditions can and do cause a certain amount of this time to be wasted and/or used inefficiently. That said, it is not impossible for average humans to learn the necessary skills and knowledge without formal lessons and many people in southern California have done so without any life altering problems. Not surprisingly, due to reduced income, unemployed people not only may be more tempted to try this option, but may also have more success since they may be able to make learning an almost full-time effort (in fact this is how Malibu Kitesurfing's owner learned). However, since most of our clients have a strong desire to become reasonably safe and responsible kiters as fast as possible, we are constantly looking for ways to further improve the many techniques etc. which we have learned, discovered and CREATED over the years. Areas where we've been able to make substantial improvements include:
UNEQUALLED SAFETY INSTRUCTION The essence of kitesurfing is being able to control the power applied by the wind to cruise, jump, surf and/or do tricks. However, when enough of this power is misapplied by some mishap or by the kiter, the resulting force may cause him/her to lose control of the kite. An out of control kite often has more than enough power to take the kiter places he/she'd rather not be and cause impacts hard enough to cause injury or death. Additionally, the lines can be extremely dangerous because they can cut through flesh, immobilize a kiter's hand or arm, pull him/her by a foot or otherwise prevent control of the kite. Most importantly though, an out of control kite can also annoy, injure and possibly kill other people and pets. Since 2002, we have SPECIALIZED in learning, discovering and developing the most feasible SAFETY related techniques and procedures, especially as they specifically relate to southern California kiting. We'll show you simple and sometimes unique techniques pertaining to general situations such as how to chose a launch location, to narrower situations such as right of way at various locations, down to highly specific situations such as how to get untangled from kelp. Additionally, we'll show you tricks to help develop habits which automate as many skills as possible. Not only is it much less likely that you'll forget to perform some helpful or essential action once its become a habit, but you can then devote more attention to the many other details which at first may require extra concentration. More significantly however, we can thoroughly EXPLAIN how and why the assorted factors associated with various situations interact to indicate the best response. It is much better to learn HOW to accurately analyze and prioritize pertinent factors than to try to memorize some set response because you'll frequently encounter situations where the variables present create more than one seemingly reasonable option. And although a single set response may work to varying degrees in a large number of reasonably similar situations, it will only be the BEST (=SAFEST PRACTICAL RESPONSE) option for a small number. Furthermore, when you go to different locations, you'll inevitably find substantially different situations where the set response may now become a bad choice. In these situations, the better that you understand how various factors are likely to interact, the greater the odds that you'll find the most appropriate response. Usually, especially for novices, the most appropriate response will be your SAFEST PRACTICAL RESPONSE and by practicing these skills, eventually you'll automatically create RESPONSES fine-tuned to YOUR exact personal specifications.
